   ST. EMERIC INFORMATION   

        There is a special request to pray for the granddaughter of Mary & Fred Burton. Mary was the former secretary at St. Emeric's. Their granddaughter is 2 1/2 year old Reilly, and is awaiting the transplant in a New Jersey hospital.  Mary is asking her former parishioners and friends for loads of prayers. Thanks to Ginger Shupryt for relaying the request.

    MARY ALICE SCHUTZ,sister of Deacon Jim Detloff, died on Monday, December 28th. She was waked and interred in the Mundelein, IL area on Thursday, December 31st. Burial was in Ascension Cemetery, Libertyville. To view the death notice, and to read or sign the guestbook, please CLICK HERE.

Baseball caps with the 50th Anniversary logo are now available for $10.00. Mike Gleason started hawking..er..selling them at the Pig Roast. They are in the traditional school colors of red with the embroidery in white. You can pick one up at the Parish Office or mail in a check with your name, and it will be waiting for you at church the following weekend.

SUNDAY BY SUNDAY  

On Tuesday evenings at 7:30 p.m., in the Teachers’ Lounge, a small group meets to discuss the Scripture readings for the next Sunday, and how they apply to our lives. Everyone is welcome to attend. Material will be provided. If you’re interested, call the Parish Office and leave a message. Someone will get back to you.

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL NEEDS FOOD ITEMS!           

Due to the tough economic situation, the St. Vincent de Paul Society finds itself helping more people. There is an urgent need for nonperishable food items, especially string beans, corn, peas, baked beans and fruit. There is a box in the foyer of church, or you can drop any items off at the Parish Office during the week. Please help!

ST. EMERIC CHOIR NEEDS YOUR VOICE!

Roxanne Packer is looking for new members to join her music family! There are three levels of singers.

CHILDREN’S CHOIR - boys & girls in grades 1 -8. Rehearsals are Mondays from 4-5 p.m.

CHANCEL CHOIR - high school age through adult. Rehearsals are every Wednesday evening from 7:30 -9 p.m. in the church.

CANTORS - high school age through adult. Cantors are trained to lead the assembly in song at weekend Masses.

If you can play an instrument, Roxanne Packer would like to work with you to become part of the music ministry at the weekend masses.

WINTERFEST VI

St. Rita High School presents Winterfest VI! It will take place on Saturday, January 30th, from 6:30 p.m. - 12:00 a.m. The theme is St. Rita Goes Hollywood. It will be four parties in one. The Dining Hall will be transformed into Casablanca; library, Grease; gym, MASH 7740 (Get it? Their address!); and the dessert buffet will be Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. There will also be a silent auction. The evening is open only to those 21 years of age and older. Ticket price includes dinner and a five hour open bar. Ticket prices are $40 in advance; $50 at door; and $30 for seniors 62 and over. Tickets can be purchased over the phone at (773) 925-5029. St. Rita is located at 7740 S. Western Ave., Chicago. CATHOLICS COME HOME RECONCILIATION

Twenty two parishes will be offering special periods of time for the Sacrament of Reconciliation to be administered. This is done with the hope that returning Catholics will have ample opportunity to “come home”. Our area’s parish chosen to host reconciliation is St. Joseph's in Homewood. The unusual dates and time to receive the sacrament will be on Sunday, Jan. 24th from 2-4 p.m.; and Monday, Feb. 1st from 7-9 p.m. St. Joseph’s is located at 17951 Dixie Highway. NEW PASTOR AT ST. IRENAEUS

Fr. Terrance Johnson, who has been administrator at St. Irenaeus for the pat six months, has been appointed pastor effective immediately.

THEOLOGY SOUTH LECTURE AT ST. XAVIER UNIVERSITY

Sr. Joy Clough, RSM, will speak on “Imagine That! Scriptures and Stories”. The lecture will take place on Thursday, February 4th, from 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. The cost is $6.00. SOUP, SALAD, SCRIPTURE                   

That is what will be available on Monday, February 1st, from 6:30- 8:30 p.m. while you listen to a presentation on Biblical Women in the Jewish Scriptures:Their Role in Salvation History. Sr. Marilyn Renninger, OSF, and Fr. Ildephonse, OFM will give the lecture. The evening will take place in the dining room of the Franciscan Sisters of the Sacred Heart, 9210 W. LITTLE COMPANY OF MARY HOSPITAL GRIEF SUPPORT

Little Company of Mary Hospital offers two support programs for those who are grieving the loss of a loved one. Early registration is required. Call the Pastoral Care Department at (708) 229-5480.Little Company of Mary is located at 2800 W. 95th St., Evergreen Park.

Living: When a Loved One Has Died begins February 24th, for six consecutive Wednesdays. Support groups will be formed specific to age and loved one lost. It will take place from 7:30 - 9:30 p.m. A $25 fee is asked of those who are able.

The Heart Connection begins March 8th, for eight consecutive Mondays. It will take place from 6:15 - 7:30 p.m. This program is for children aged 5 to 17, who have lost a loved one.

INFANT JESUS OF PRAGUE HEALING MASS

ST. STEPHEN, DEACON & MARTYR

SOMEONE WHO NEEDS A HOT MEAL?

Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago sponsors a weekly supper for anyone experiencing financial problems or homelessness on Tuesdays at 6 p.m. at St. Christopher’s Parish. The Tuesday suppers are free and you do not have to be Catholic. They will be held in the school cafeteria, which can be entered from the parish parking lot on 147th St between Kostner and Crawford Aves.. St. Christopher’s is located at 14641 S. Keeler, Midlothian. Doors will open at 5:45 p.m. For information, call (708) 430-0428.

 

JOB SEARCH HELP IN OAK FOREST

New Life Community Church has started weekly job search support groups from 9 - 11:00 a.m., on Wednesdays. The church also will have monthly network meetings featuring guest speakers. They will also make available a state of the art web site with a job search portal. Nexus Employment Solutions, Oak Forest will provide free resume critique and development on Wednesdays. VEHICLE DONATION                 

   Orland Park Christian Reformed Church, 7500 Sycamore Drive, is starting a ‘car ministry’, which will provide reliable vehicles to financially needy candidates. This will aid them in their basic needs and for employment purposes. If you would be interested in donating your vehicle for such a good cause, you will be able to claim a tax deduction on the full private party value of the donated vehicle. This may very well be the only type of ministry of its kind in the area.

UNEMPLOYED OR IN A CAREER TRANSITION

H.O.P.E. ( Helping Our Parishioners toward Employment) Employment Support Ministry begins their fourth year of support, guidance, fellowship, and information for the employed, unemployed, and those in career transition. It is open to all faiths and denominations. HOPE Ministry leaders review and critique resumes, offer job search and interview tips, and pass along job leads. NEW TELEVISED SUNDAY MASS

With the weather changing, more of our parishioners won’t be able to come to mass. There is a Catholic Mass starting to broadcast on Channel 2 from 5:30 - 6 a.m. It is produced by the Passionists.

A CHANCE TO WELCOME THOSE WHO HAVE DRIFTED AWAY

Perhaps you have heard of the massive outreach to Catholics who have drifted away from the Church. The Archdiocese of Chicago along with the Diocese of Rockford and the Diocese of Joliet are undertaking an evangelization initiative –Catholics Come Home - that invites our sisters and brothers back to the practice of the faith. The site www.catholicscomehomeCHICAGO.org will help you with additional information.

PRAYERS FOR PEOPLE STRUGGLING WITH ADDICTIONS

The National Catholic Council on Alcoholism and Related Drug Problems is offering a free prayer book, “Prayers for Addicted Persons and Their Loved Ones”.
